The
PUP Open University or Pamantasang Bayan system is a system of delivering higher educational services in a manner that
differs from the traditional formal, highly structured and classroom-oriented approach.
Under the Open
University system, otherwise known in PUP as Pamantasang Bayan, the students do not have to attend classes inside a classroom.
They do not even have to enter the physical campus(es) of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Instead, the students can obtain the education they want in their homes, their places of work, their communities, or wherever
they may be that is most convenient and conducive to their learning activities. They can even continue to do this while traveling
in other countries.
The PUP Open
University was established in the 1970s. The initial offerings were non-degree (technical-vocational) courses. Over the years,
the PUP Open University has developed self-learning packages for more non-degree courses as well as higher education (Bachelors
degree) courses and advanced education (masters degree) courses.
